Kevin Max reunites with former bandmates on upcoming project
Dc Talk is reuniting. For one song. On a solo project. Again.
Toby, Mike and Kevin appear together on "The Cross," the second track on Kevin Max's upcoming album The Blood. Though "The Cross" is a rocker, the album is being billed as one in which Max eschews his usual rock stylings as he explores music that resonated with him when he was younger.
"I remember listening to Elvis, Mahalia Jackson, The Imperials, Andrae Crouch, but it took me years to understand the impact it had on me as a singer and an artist," he says. "These songs that I picked specifically related to me that the singer was in need of The Gospel more than The Gospel needing to be sung."
"Elvis Presley sang gospel music because he needed it in his life, not for fame," Max states later in a press release. "That is precisely the reason I decided to make The Blood. These are songs that I needed to sing, because they fill me with joy."
Joanne Cash, Ashley Cleveland, Chris Sligh of American Idol fame, Amy Grant and Vince Gill and Mary Mary's Erica Campbell also make appearances on the album. The first single will feature Sligh and hits radio this month, but you can stream the dc Talk track right now on the album's MySpace page.
